Education at a Turning Point: Preparing Young People for an Era of AI, Growing Complexity & New Opportunity

Education House will convene its first gathering of 2026 at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, bringing global leaders together on Tuesday, January 20, from 11:30–3:00 PM at Hotel Schatzalp in Davos, Switzerland.

Taking place at a moment of profound global transition, the Davos Edition of Education House will be held under the theme: “Education at a Turning Point: Preparing Young People for an Era of AI, Growing Complexity & New Opportunity.”

As geopolitical instability, rapid technological change, and deepening polarization reshape societies and economies, education systems are under increasing pressure to adapt. This convening will explore how education must evolve – not only to prepare young people for jobs, but to develop the deeper human capabilities required to navigate complexity, lead with purpose, and contribute to inclusive and sustainable growth in an AI-enabled world.

“Humanity faces increasingly existential challenges – from emergent AI and growing polarization to violent conflict and environmental degradation,” says Wendy Kopp, Co-Founder and CEO of Teach For All. “Meeting this moment requires education that develops all students as creative, critically thinking, collaborative leaders of a better future – for themselves and for all of us.”

At Education House @ WEF 2026, participants will engage around three interconnected questions that move from vision, to coalition, to global impact:

  • What are the human capabilities young people need to navigate the world today and in the decade ahead?

  • How can educators, business, government, and civil society work together—leveraging AI responsibly—to develop these capabilities at scale?

  • What will it take to accelerate meaningful education transformation globally, ensuring that shifts in learning systems drive inclusive and sustainable growth, particularly in contexts facing the greatest barriers to opportunity?

The convening will bring together a curated group of 40+ leaders from business, government, education systems, and civil society—especially those shaping economic and political ecosystems that determine whether young people and societies can thrive. The aim is to position education not as a standalone sector, but as a shared, strategic investment in human capability, economic resilience, and global stability.

“At Education House in Davos, we want to catalyze partnerships that translate ambition into action,” says Lasse Leponiemi, Chairman of the HundrED Foundation. “That means rethinking how we educate young people while recognizing education as foundational to achieving our shared sustainable development agenda.”

Session #1: What Are the Capabilities Youth Need to Navigate the World Today and in the Future Ahead?

This discussion will identify and align on the human capabilities that will determine economic resilience in a decisive decade. As geopolitical and climate risks intensify and technology accelerates disruption, we will debate what capabilities matter most for the prosperity, stability and competitiveness of businesses, economies and societies.

Facilitated by Rebecca Winthrop (Brookings CUE) and Asheesh Advani (JA Worldwide)

AI is reshaping industries, work, and society at unprecedented speed. But its most profound impact may lie ahead, in how young people learn, how educators teach, and how entire education systems evolve. How do education systems need to be redesigned to meet this moment? How can we leverage its possibilities and mitigate its risks, integrating AI responsibly into learning ecosystems, supporting teachers, and expanding access to powerful learning tools across contexts?

Facilitated by David Edwards (Education International) and Anna Koivuniemi (Google DeepMind Impact Accelerator).
