Universities are where the next generation of SDG leaders is being shaped. UNITAR is set to co-convene the second Global Higher Education Symposium (GHES II), on the margins of the 2026 High-Level Political Forum.
The symposium will launch the Final Consensus Statement on the role of higher education in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, building on the outcomes of GHES I and a global consultation process conducted in 2025.
The event brings together higher education leaders, scientists, youth representatives, UN entities and policy partners to discuss how higher education can contribute to just, inclusive and sustainable futures, in line with the SDGs, the Pact for the Future and the UNESCO Higher Education Roadmap.
Michelle Gyles-McDonnough, Executive Director of UNITAR, will deliver opening remarks alongside senior representatives of the United Nations and Member States.
Knowledge shapes policy. Policy shapes action.
