#WeChampion Greening Education Systems through Partnerships

In September 2022, Mission 4.7 played a significant role in convening a Ministerial Panel of government representatives, including education ministers, from five countries alongside the Transforming Education Summit in New York; and it has, over the past year, invited leaders from government, academia, civil society, and business to discuss how they are implementing SDG 4.7 as part of its #WeChampion speaker series.

This #WeChampion virtual side event of the UN 2023 ECOSOC Partnership Forum will include representatives of all Mission 4.7 founding institutions, as well as mission-aligned “Friends of Mission 4.7.” Mission 4.7 realizes the importance of partnerships in meeting Target 4.7. This panel will build a momentum to recruit more organizations to be a part of UNESCO’s Greening Partnership. More specifically, the panel will discuss the types and levels of partnerships required for the Greening Partnership Agenda. This will include looking at partnerships through the lens of intersectionality, gender norms, civic-participation, local governance and school support systems.

Approach

The webinar will be a workshop format, which will reflect the ways in which SDGs can enter K-12 classrooms and Higher Education Institutions. The workshop will investigate pedagogical ways in which the greening education dialogue can be reflected in partnerships within classrooms. These approaches will be discussed through a lifelong-learning lens spanning Kindergarten and beyond. The workshop will be true to the vision of SDG 4.7, which includes Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education. The workshop facilitators and speakers will discuss the potential of experiential-learning and play-based methods in the delivery of ESD in formal classrooms. The panelists will share resources and case studies on ESD and dwell on the aspirations and needs of young individuals.

The webinar will focus on UNESCO’s greening partnership forum and will touch upon the four pillars:Greening Schools, Greening learning, Greening capacity and readiness, and Greening Communities. Acknowledging the fact that meeting this goal requires partnerships, deliberations, and collaborations. This panel will give a flavor of what these partnerships will look like to boost SDG 4.7.

Outcome of the Workshop

A White Paper to be published with checklists resources to aid in facilitating SDG 4.7 with special emphasis on Global Citizenship Education and Education for Sustainable Development. The discussion will result in a compilation of best practices, checklists, video repository and toolkits from the partner organizations to help facilitate experiential-learning and play-based teaching approaches in classrooms. A full repository of these materials will be available on Mission 4.7’s educational resource platform for easy and free access to facilitators across the globe.
