3rd Annual Meeting of the Greening Education Partnership

The annual COP meetings represent critical advocacy moments for UNESCO and the Greening Education Partnership. The Partnership has been organizing its annual meetings since 2023 during the COP meetings, leveraging the political momentum they generate around climate action.

UNESCO has responded to a request from the Permanent Delegation of Brazil to ensure that education is featured prominently on the COP 30 agenda.

Engagement at COP30 will be strategic, building on the momentum established through UNESCO’s leadership and the growing recognition of education as a vital component of climate action. Since the launch of the Greening Education Partnership in response to the 2022 UN Transforming Education Summit, UNESCO has progressively elevated the profile of education at the Climate COPs. The inaugural Partnership meeting at COP27 in Egypt, the extensive programming at COP28 in the UAE, and the formal inclusion of education on the COP Presidency agenda at COP29 in Baku have collectively laid a strong foundation.

COP30 offers a timely opportunity to consolidate this progress, reinforce global commitments, and secure education’s place as a strategic pillar in climate policy. With Brazil’s active engagement and the coordination of key national ministries, UNESCO’s role in convening and guiding this process is critical to ensuring that education remains a focus in global climate negotiations and that the Greening Education Partnership continues to drive system-wide transformation.
