This keynote introduces the concept of the mission-driven fifth-generation university, a model of higher education that moves the university beyond teaching and research to become an active catalyst for societal and industrial change. 

The speaker will outline a model for universities to advance beyond teaching and publishing sustainability. They will share best practices to enable a sustainable energy future, addressing the following:  

  • Campuses that function as living laboratories for smart energy solutions  

  • Innovation hubs and collaboration platforms where low-carbon systems, smart infrastructure and sustainable practices are evaluated and implemented in real-world settings alongside industry and communities 

  • Developing talent in the form of graduates equipped with first-hand experience, systems thinking and the knowledge to support low-carbon futures.
